Paraty Nightlife

Night starts early in Paraty, around 7, when the hostel where I'm staying opens its bar. Volume rises as guests line up to take advantage of the 3 caipirinhas for R$10 special. The party mood makes its way into your body and you become part of the Misti Chill family. We begin with courtesy shots, starting with the now famous Exotic shot: a bit of rum mixed with lime in coffee and sugar. It is definitively a perfect way to mingle with the other guests and a quick start to a night of partying.   

After several rounds of drinks and the clock approaching 11:30, the bar closes and everyone gets ready to hit the town. We begin with the "warm-up". In Paraty this usually means going to Cana da Praça: a nice little spot with good ambiance and even better prices: caipirinhas for R$5 (a basic measurement unit to evaluate how expensive a place is). After beers and caipirinhas, Gabriela (cachaça mixed with cloves and cinnamon) is next on the menu. 

A multitude of languages can be heard since the groups here come from every corner of the world. After several rounds of drinks, the next step is heading to Dinho's, just around the corner, to dance to some local music and foreign sounds as well. Here you can hear every type of music and if the music isn't exactly what you're in the mood for you can even plug in your own I-pod or play your own CD. No matter what's playing you can be sure you'll dance the night away and even learn to dance a little Brazilian samba along the way. 

On the odd night a band might even show up and play for a few hours. In short, it's a true small town bar where anything is possible and chances are you'll make your way home tired but inspired by a beautiful Paraty sunrise, a promising start to yet another great day.
